Fuel Tank Lift
Fuel Tank Lift

After performing a 3" bodylift, there's enough available space in the void created to lift the fuel tank up by a corresponding 3"...

The following is a pictorial guide to doing it, but the photos are of two different Vitaras... you'll guess that by the chassis colours!

I have managed to do one such lift without taking the petrol tank out, by working round it, but obviously, petrol and grinding sparks don't mix well!  So exercise extreme caution, if possible remove the tank and take it a good distance away from where you're working...

So, looking up at the rear crossmember tube, there's two plate brackets like the one pictured above.

And there's two longer ones hanging down at the front of the fuel tank on the next crossmember in.

And this is the other one on the other side of the same crossmember...

Then grind the brackets completely off...

Then you should have bits like this cut off

Tidying up the other one by the fuel filter...

Then, with all the old mounts cut off...

... and ground flat...

... give them all a good lick  of paint / underseal...

Then with the fuel tank supported on a trolley jack with a spreader plate (plank of wood),
we can drill the new supporting holes...

Through the crossmember, and a nice big strong bolt

And the other one next to the fuel filter...

The ones in the rear crossmember have to be drilled at a slight angle in order to get them in.

Ahh, before reassembling everything, you'll need to shorten this one mount on the fuel tank guard...

(and paint it  )

And then finally, marvel at the amount of ground clearence under your Vit'!

As demonstrated by me, a full-framed 6'1" 15.5 Stone bloke, under the tank side on too...
